Belgrade Attractions - Serbian and Yugoslav writer Branko Copic, finished elementary school in his birthplace, and a lower secondary school in Bihac. He studied a Teachers school in Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Delnice and finished it in Karlovci. Then, he enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and graduated in 1940. In 1928 he published his first story, and a short story in 1936. He was a member of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and his works have been translated into English, German, Russian and French.
He died at the age of 69 on March 26 in 1984 when he committed suicide by jumping off the, then known as, bridge Bratstvo i jedinstvo in Belgrade, now known as Brankov bridge.
By the will of Dr Bogdanka Ilic Copic, the wife Branka Copic, the Foundation was established in 1989 with the status of a legal entity and has its headquarters in the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, whose member Branko was. Rewarding writers for works written and published in the Serbian language is the main objective of the establishment of the Foundation of Branko Copic. The Foundation of Branko Ćopić is awarding two prizes annually for works of high artistic value that were issued during the year. The second objective of the Foundation Branko Copic is representation of copyrights for publication of literary works of Branko Copic The Foundation is managed by a Board of directors composed of members elected from the ranks of the Department of Language and Literature of SANU.
